Senior Games QA Engineer - Senior Games QA Engineer I

Date: 24 Apr 2026

Location: Lisbon, PT

Company: Miniclip

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join our Portfolio Product Unit, which focuses on operating our key titles and significantly improving their performance through bold experiments.

This is a Software-Developer-in-Test role. We're not looking for someone whose job ends at writing test cases or automation scripts — we're looking for a hands-on, product-minded engineer who treats testing as a systems problem: understands quality assurance deeply, builds tools and workflows that make the whole team faster and safer, and approaches testing with a hacker's curiosity to find what breaks before players do.

Consider applying if you are a collaborative, proactive, and hands-on engineer who enjoys building, mentoring, and relentlessly optimising how quality gets shipped. You continuously learn, challenge your own skillset, and encourage the same mindset in others.

What will you be doing at Miniclip?

  • Shape the quality strategy of the team and proactively take initiative in day-to-day work and technical decision-making around testing, releases, and risk.
  • Design, build, and maintain test automation across client, backend, and integration layers for live mobile games.
  • Build internal testing tools, harnesses, simulators, and developer-facing utilities that make the team faster — including lightweight "vibe-coded" tools when speed and leverage matter more than polish.
  • Continuously audit and optimise testing processes, looking for waste, flaky feedback loops, and manual work that can be automated or eliminated.
  • Apply a hacker's mindset: probe systems deeply, hunt for edge cases, challenge assumptions, and stress-test the experiments the team ships.
  • Drive quality for bold experiments end-to-end: validate experimentation setups, feature flags, analytics instrumentation, and A/B test implementations before and after release.
  • Partner with developers to shift quality left — pairing on testability, reviewing designs for risk, and coaching on test-driven approaches.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, release management, and live-ops; actively participate in monitoring, incident analysis, and post-mortems.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering peers to clarify scope, assess trade-offs, and challenge ideas constructively to improve outcomes.
  • Coach other engineers on quality practices and grow team autonomy so quality scales through people and tooling, not gatekeeping.
  • Contribute to internal tooling, documentation, and developer experience improvements.
  • Go beyond your core responsibilities when needed to remove impediments and help the team move faster together.

What are we looking for?

  • 5+ years of professional experience in QA / quality engineering for software or games, with at least part of that in a developer-in-test or tooling-focused capacity.
  • Strong coding skills — comfortable writing production-quality automation and internal tools, not just test scripts.
  • Deep understanding of QA methodologies, test design, and when (and when not) to apply them.
  • Proven experience building testing infrastructure, frameworks, or tooling that others in the team rely on.
  • A hacker / curious mindset: drawn to understanding how systems really work and where they break.
  • Product focus: you care about player experience and business outcomes, not just bug counts.
  • Comfort leveraging AI-assisted coding and rapid-prototyping approaches to build testing tools quickly when they unlock team leverage.
  • Experience guiding quality direction in fast-paced, experimental, Agile environments.
  • Strong team communication, collaboration, and planning skills, with a mindset focused on shared ownership and collective effort.
  • Passion for great games, experimentation, and continuous self-development.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience testing live mobile games at scale.
  • Experience with Unity, C++, TypeScript or Python.
  • Experience with mobile-specific testing challenges.
  • Experience validating experimentation platforms, feature flagging systems, and analytics instrumentation.
