Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial (based in London), the Commercial/Privacy Counsel lawyer will be responsible for a broad commercial and data protection role as a trusted advisor on matters of key strategic and financial importance.  This is a full-time position, please apply only if you have the right to work in the UK.

You will be an English-law qualified commercial lawyer with 4/5+ years’ post-qualification experience, including management and training experience.

The work undertaken by Miniclip’s legal department is wide-ranging. We regularly advise on legal matters affecting the interactive entertainment industry; commercial and corporate transactions (including M&A), intellectual property matters, advertising, marketing, ad tech, data privacy, AI and more. Additionally, the team supports the work of HR, IT, Facilities and Finance.

 

This opportunity will suit a candidate who is looking to join a fast paced and dynamic international business and will be ideal for an experienced mid-level commercial and privacy lawyer with an interest in interactive entertainment.

The successful candidate will feel comfortable in an environment that is developing rapidly and where learning from commercial and technical colleagues is essential.  As a mid-level role it is key that you are able to provide positive support and guidance to more junior members of the team when required. Previous in-house roles and professional experience in the games industry is desirable.

What will you be doing at Miniclip?

Drafting and negotiating a range of commercial agreements including:

  • Game specific publishing and development agreements
  • Licensing in and licensing out of various kinds of IP and content
  • Marketing/User Acquisition related agreements (including buy side ad tech agreements)
  • Advertising monetisation agreements
  • Content creation agreements with individuals, businesses and agencies
  • Consumer facing terms and conditions and policies
  • Employment related agreements

Advising the group, handling ad hoc requests and undertaking day-to-day work on:

  • Stand-alone commercial and intellectual property matters and providing support to the Senior Commercial Counsel.
  • Supporting the Senior Privacy Counsel on privacy and data protection matters.
  • IT, operations and facilities matters.
  • First point of review for the work and queries of other members of the legal team

Long Description

Assisting in various data protection matters, including:

  • Drafting policies and procedures.
  • Conducting research, coordinating with DPO and/or local counsel, if needed.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and trends.
  • Assist with due diligence for third parties, including target acquisitions or vendors.
  • Helping with the implementation of privacy-related projects.
  • Drafting and advising on DPIAs, LIAs, TIAs, ROPA and any other data protection compliance tasks.
  • Advising the business on data protection requirements.

Assisting with team development, knowledge management and efficiency:

  • Together with the Senior Commercial Counsel ensuring Miniclip is kept informed of changes to legislation, industry developments and key gaming industry supplier terms and conditions (eg Apple App Store, Unity)
  • Assisting with technical legal and industry specific team training.

What are we looking for?

The following skills or experience are required: 

  • 4/5+ years’ PQE qualified as a solicitor in a top tier private practice law firm or commercially-focussed in-house role in the interactive entertainment or tech industries
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to take a holistic view of a matter or challenge
  • Strong experience on data protection matters.
  • Strong technical drafting skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and a quick learner
  • Highly effective at prioritisation
  • A team-player who is driven, enthusiastic, agile and forward-thinking, with commercial acumen
  • Management experience desirable
