Senior Legal Counsel, Product & Regulatory

Date: 15 Apr 2026

Location: London, GB

Company: Miniclip

Miniclip operates games that are played by hundreds of millions of people around the world and the legal team's work reflects that scale and complexity. The regulatory environment for mobile gaming has never been more demanding: loot box and virtual currency frameworks are tightening across the EU, UK, and key APAC markets, the EU AI Act is reshaping how player-facing features can be built and deployed, and the DSA and DMA are fundamentally changing the economics and compliance obligations of app store distribution; and the UK Online Safety Act, EU age assurance frameworks, and a growing patchwork of national legislation on trust, safety, and age verification are raising the bar on how games with social features and younger audiences must be designed and operated. Regulators are no longer watching from a distance.

We need a Senior Legal Counsel, Product & Regulatory who has lived inside this landscape. You'll be the primary legal partner for our product and operations teams globally, embedded in the business and trusted to make calls confidently as the rules keep changing. Reporting to the Group General Counsel and working closely with the Senior Legal Counsel - Privacy, this role is Miniclip's regulatory intelligence function as much as it is a legal advisory one.

What You'll Be Doing

Regulatory Advisory

  • Own Miniclip's regulatory horizon across mobile gaming globally - tracking, interpreting, and translating developments in loot box and virtual currency regulation into clear, timely guidance for the business

  • Advise on the EU Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act -  including platform obligations, content moderation requirements, and the implications for Miniclip's distribution and monetisation models

  • Lead Miniclip's legal response to the EU AI Act as it applies to player-facing AI features, personalisation systems, and AI-assisted game development — advising on risk tier classification, prohibited practices, and compliance obligations for general-purpose AI tools in the development pipeline

  • Advise on trust and safety obligations for games with social and UGC features - including duty of care requirements under the UK Online Safety Act, content moderation frameworks under the DSA, and the CPC Network's minors' protection principles on in-game communications and monetisation

  • Lead Miniclip's approach to age assurance obligations globally - advising on UK age verification requirements under the Online Safety Act, EU member state age assurance legislation, platform-level age rating obligations under DSA/PEGI, and the emerging patchwork of national requirements in APAC and the US

  • Advise on consumer protection obligations globally, including dark pattern risk in monetisation design, virtual currency transparency requirements, subscription mechanics, and age-gating obligations for minors

  • Monitor enforcement actions and regulatory guidance in the gaming sector and ensure the business has early visibility of emerging obligations and enforcement trends

Product & Operations Partnership

  • Serve as the primary legal partner for product and operations teams across the full product lifecycle

  • Provide legal input on in-game monetisation design, including virtual currency structures, premium features, loot box mechanics, and in-game advertising advising on both the legal risk and the practical design changes needed to achieve compliance

  • Advise on AI-generated content, AI-assisted game features, and player data use for personalisation - working closely with the Senior Legal Counsel — Privacy on the intersection of AI Act and GDPR obligations

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders across product, operations, commercial, and marketing - advising at pace and at the level of seniority the business requires

Intellectual Property

  • Advise on IP strategy and risk for new products and features, including character and asset clearance, UGC policies, and clone and infringement risk management

  • Support licensing and co-development arrangements with IP implications, including milestone structures, IP ownership, and revenue share

  • Oversee IP enforcement activity, coordinating with external counsel and managing takedowns and cease and desist processes across platforms and app stores

Governance & Cross-Functional Work

  • Develop scalable legal guidance, playbooks, and regulatory briefings that translate a complex and shifting landscape into actionable positions for non-lawyer audiences across the business

  • Lead or support engagement with external regulators, trade associations and industry bodies on policy matters and consultation responses affecting the gaming sector

  • Supervise and mentor junior legal team members and manage external counsel on product and regulatory matters

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years PQE with significant in-house experience, including demonstrable hands-on experience advising on the regulatory landscape for mobile gaming or consumer-facing digital products - you know the mobile gaming regulatory environment from the inside

  • Track record of advising product and operations teams at speed, with the ability to give clear, confident answers in a fast-moving environment where the rules are still being written

  • Strong understanding of IP principles as they apply to games and digital content, including enforcement and clearance

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction)

The Qualities That Matter Most

  • Regulatory fluency: You can translate a complex, shifting, multi-jurisdictional regulatory landscape into a clear and actionable position for a non-lawyer audience - under time pressure

  • Trusted partner: Senior stakeholders want you in the room early, not as a checkpoint at the end. You build that trust by being right more often than not and honest when you're uncertain

  • Commercial awareness: You understand what the business is trying to achieve and shape legal positions around that, not against it

  • Proactive: You track regulatory developments and surface the implications before the business hits them — not after

  • Composure: You give clear, confident answers under pressure, even when the legal answer is genuinely uncertain

  • Low ego, high impact: You care about outcomes, not credit
